Today, the Rotary Club of Marikina Heights, though smaller in number of membership, is credited with more service projects that answer the needs of the Marikina Heights community. Foremost of the projects is the adoption of Kapitan Moy Elementary School and Marikina Heights High School where twenty one computer units were donated in cooperation with its sister club in Japan, the Rotary Club of Wakayanagi. A room was refurbished by the club complete with two airconditioning units to house the twenty one computer units.

The club sponsored a two-month training program for the school teachers on how to teach basic computer knowledge to the students.

Prior to the donation of computer units, the students at Marikina Heights High School would graduate and go to college with very little knowledge of computer if none at all. Lack of computer knowledge has made their life in college discouraging and miserable.

The club has also donated school desks to Kapitan Moy Elementary School where many pupils used to sit down on the floor. Several sets and volumes of encyclopedia and reference books were also donated to the two adopted schools. They were also the recipient of book shelves for their school libraries.

The club organized the Interact Club of Marikina Heights High School and has continuously guided and trained its members in the past several years of its existence.

Many other community projects were implemented such as health, environmental protection, care for the children in conflict with the law, care for indigent children, care for the elderly and the disabled, skills training, livelihood, feeding the malnourished children and college scholarship for students of poor families to name a few.

CLUB HISTORY

Once a Rotarian will always be a Rotarian. This postulation seemed to find relevance in two former Rotarians. PP Boy Marigza and Rtn. Jun Aguilar. who were both in the stage of momentary hibernation for varying reasons, when approached by DG Tony Co sometime in November 1999 to initiate the organization of the Rotary Club of Marikina Heigths.

PP Boy and Rtn. Jun couldn't refuse such overtures coming from a close acquiantance in DG Tony Co. The three had a chance to work closely together during the term of IPDG Lina Aurelio.

Forthwith , PP Boy got in touch with DGGR Bien Medel and Pres. Ed Manzanares of the Rotary Club of Marikina North to inform the two of his receptiveness to the call of DG Tony. During the same meeting the Rotary Club of Marikina North offered itself to be the sponsoring club. Meanwhile, Rtn. Jun committed to support PP Boy in the organization of the club all the way.

DGGR Bien, PP Boy and Rtn. Jun decided to make Saturday, 8:00 a.m. and the newly opened McDonald Restaurant in Bgy. Marikina Heights to be the interim day, time and venue of the club's organizational meeting.

It took only two (2) weeks for the three to assemble a substantial number of prospective Rotarians. Breakfast meetings and the encouraging mix of prospective members seemed to work to the advantage of the club as the number (of prospective members) increased at an accelerted pace. Interestingly, two prospective lady Rotarians came forward when they got wind of the organization of the club and its openness to lady members.

With this encouraging development, PP Boy soght the help of Pres. Ed Manzanares to conduct a classification survey to determine if the club has mustered enough prospective members representing a wide range of business and professions. Results of the survey were forwarded immediately to DG Tony.

DG Tony sent his word of approval to PP Boy through DGGR Bien for them to proceed with the club's formal organization and to start holding its regular weekly meetings.

As soon as the club has recruited twenty six (26) prospective members and upon advise of DG Tony, it filed its formal application for membership with the Rotary International. While waiting for the RI's issuance of certificate of the club's membership, the number of prospective members rose to a high of thirty (30) within a span of three (3)months.

The certification of club's membership in the Rotary International was received by PP Boy in the latter part of January . However, the club decided to designate 10 February 1999 as the official date of its chartering.

The Rotary Club of Marikina Heights decided to hold its Charter presentation and induction of Charter and new Members on 30 May 1999.
